Morro Dois Irmaos is one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic landmarks. The name translates to “Two Brothers Hill” because of the two peaks that are pictured above. The highest point is 533m above sea level and the views at the top are said to be magical. The hike to the top is relatively easy and takes an experienced hiker a little under an hour. There are many famous Brazilian performers that have hiked Morro Dois Irmaos and speak glowingly about it.
The Chapada Diamantina National Park is truly an astonishing national park on the eastern side of Brazil. The main attraction at this massive national park is a 350 meter water fall. The Cachoeira da Fumaca waterfall is so high that the water vaporizes before it even hits the ground. The Cachoeira da Fumaca is definitely the main attraction, but people also love exploring the deep canyons, blue lakes, and vast amount of trails that can take up to days to hike all the way through. It is said that the national park has transformed greatly over the thousands of years that have passed since it was discovered.
The Lencois Maranhenses national park is said to be one of the most unique national parks in all of Brazil. This national park is located in a the north eastern coastal region of Brazil and is not inhabited by many people. The Lencois Maranhenses resembles a vast desert with beautiful white sand dunes as far as the eye can see. Although this national park looks like a desert, there are many bodies of water that are extremely clear and almost even see through. There are many riding explorations that go on throughout this national park, but in order to get the best experience, it is said that you should walk the national park.
The Anhumas Grotto is a massive waterfall area that is said to be the most beautiful scenery in all of Brazil. This area features a crystal-clear river, many covered caves, and thousands of species of animals that have lived in the caves ever since they were discovered. There are many waterfalls located throughout the grotto that help wildlife grow throughout the many caves. The most famous grotto is the Blue Lagoon Grotto and it is known for its water turning a beautiful shade of blue when the sun hits it just right. There have been many movies filmed in the Blue Lagoon Grotto.
This is a picture of the port of Rio de Janeiro. This beautiful coastal city has a population of 6.4 million. Many Brazilians say that this city was actually made by god himself. The city of Rio De Janeiro has one of the most beautiful landmarks in the entire world that I will mention later on. The port of Rio de Janeiro is a very populous port and is constantly bus throughout every day of the entire year.
This is a picture of downtown Sao Paulo. Sao Paulo is Brazil’s largest city at roughly 15 million people. Sao Paulo is the 11th largest city in the world and is also the most populated city in the Southern Hemisphere. It is located in the center of Brazil’s weatlthiest state. The downtown district of Sao Paulo is made up of many different districts that represent cultures from all around the world. The tallest building in downtown Sao Paulo is the Mirante do Vale and it stands 558 feet tall.
This is a picture of downtown Salvador, Brazil. As you can tell, this city is very rich in history and is one of Brazil’s oldest cities in the entire country. The city of Salvador has 2.9 million people and is considered by many to be the heart of Brazil. This picture was taken during a very famous Carnival in Salvador that encourages many tourists to visit town throughout the week long carnival.
My final city that I would like to talk about is Brasilia. This picture is an aerial view of one of the most famous parks in Brasilia as well as the downtown district on the right side of the photo. All three branches of the Brazilian government are located in this city. Brasilia is known for being created “at the drawing table” and many Brazilians wish that more planning would have been involved.
As was mentioned earlier, the most famous landmark in all of Brazil is Christ the Redeemer. It is has been my passion for a very long time to see this landmark before I die. This landmark is located in Rio de Janeiro at the top of a mountain overlooking the city and the Port of Rio. At night, the statue glows very bright due to it being lit up from the bottom. The trip to see Christ the Redeemer is almost as great as the view from it.
The Cathedral of Brasilia is located in Brasilia, Brazil. This beautiful cathedral is located in the center of the city and was created by one of Brazil’s most famous architects. The inside of the cathedral is lined with glass. This cathedral is a very important place of worship for the Roman Catholic religion. The most famous part of the cathedral is the hanging sculptures of angels.
The Teatro Amazons is a world famous opera house in the center of the Brazilian rain forest. This famous opera house opened in 1896 and has had many famous opera singers throughout the years. There have been many movies filmed in this opera house over the years.
The Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum is the most iconic museum for art lovers in Brazil. This landmark is located in Rio de Janeiro and overlooks one of Brazil’s most beautiful beaches. The museum is also built directly across the bay from downtown Rio de Janeiro. The art museum resembles a flying saucer and is a big attraction for tourists.

This is a picture of young adults at a famous festival in Rio de Janeiro. These young adults are walking down a main street in Rio. As you can see, the temperature in Rio is usually extremely nice out and that is represented by what the people are wearing.
One of the most popular things for Brazilians to do in the summer time is spend time on the beaches. This picture is taken in Rio de Janeiro on one of the most famous beaches. This picture represents younger people, but there are all different variations that spend time at the beaches in Rio de Janeiro.
One of the most important activities for Brazilians is to watch their soccer team. Soccer is the most famous sport in Brazil and the fans take this sport extremely serious. As you can see, the fans are standing up and appear to be screaming for the success of their national team. The stadiums are extremely loud and can hold up to 100,000 people.
Another very popular thing for Brazilians to do is spend time hiking throughout the mountains. As you can see, this group is at the top of a mountain near the Christ the Redeemer statue. The people appear to be extremely happy with their climb.

Maracana Stadium is one of the most famous “football” stadiums in all of Brazil. You will find many Brazilian fans at the games pounding on huge samba drums. Flags are extremely common and you better make sure that you are waving a Brazilian flag, or else. (Pages 502-503)
Fernando de Noronha is a 10 kilometer island located off of the coast of Brazil in the Atlantic Ocean. The scenery is described as jaw dropping and visitors have the time of their lives. There are many beautiful beaches and this area is said to have some of the greatest snorkeling in the entire world. The plane seats to get to this island are very restricted and will need to be planned months in advance. (Pages 241-242)
